MANILA, Philippines — Chiara Permentilla is making the most of her Italian connection with coach Ettore Guidetti with the new Nxled tactician instilling a fighting mentality within their team in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The Filipino-Italian spiker is relieved that they no longer have a language barrier with their new coach, but sometimes her coach gives her instructions in Italian to share with the Chameleons.

“There’s definitely a connection, and sometimes, during games and training, if he wants to tell me something quickly, he’ll say it in Italian to make it faster,” said Permentilla, who put up a solid game with 21 points, 15 receptions, and 10 digs in their 15-25, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25 loss to PLDT on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

MANILA, Philippines — After missing the previous heartbreaking campaign of PLDT, a fit-again Savi Davison is determined to lead the High Speed Hitters to a first ever podium finish in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Coming off a six-month absence due to surgery on her previous knee injury, the Filipino-Canadian spiker made a rousing comeback with 19 points to lead PLDT past Nxled, 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

“I’m just excited to contribute the way I’m used to. I’m super grateful with how this whole process turned out with me being able to play so early,” said Davison, who had 18 kills and nine excellent receptions.

MANILA, Philippines — Rookie setter Angge Alcantara is embracing the huge responsibility for PLDT in the absence of star setter Kim Fajardo and the departure of Rhea Dimaculangan in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

With Fajardo being sidelined with a nagging knee injury and Dimaculangan parting ways with her longtime pro club, Alcantara shone on her first game as PLDT’s main setter.

“Tinanggap ko lang. Bukal naman sa loob ko and inisip ko na rin na it’s my time na rin para mag-step up,” said the rookie playmaker, who had 13 excellent sets and three points in their 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22 win on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

MANILA, Philippines–PLDT opened its PVL All-Filipino Conference campaign with a convincing 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, victory against Nxled on Tuesday at PhilSports Arena.

Rookie playmaker Angelica Alcantara stepped up to fill the huge void left by the High Speed Hitters’ veteran setters Kim Fajardo, who was not in uniform, and newly-wed Rhea Dimaculangan who decided to focus first on her family.

“Good start pa rin sa amin considering na kakabalik lang ni [Savannah Davison] tapos bagong salang si Angge so happy naman sa performance. Sayang lang na hindi namin na-diretso pero yun pa yung kailangan pa namin i-work on siguro,” coach Rald Ricafort said.

MANILA, Philippines — Coach Roger Gorayeb said Capital1 has nowhere to go but up in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference after Russian import Marina Tushova took them to greater heights in the previous Reinforced tournament.

“Pataas na kami, hindi kami pwedeng bumaba pa uli,” Gorayeb told Inquirer Sports. “Hindi ko naman alam, ang daming mga teams, naglipatan-lipatan yung player nila. Kami, wala naman. Kami-kami lang. Kailangan lang itaas ng itaas. Siyempre, nakalagay lahat yan sa balikat ko eh. Kaya ang laking responsibilidad na maganda yung performance namin yung nakaraan na dagdagan pa yun.”

From a one-win debut in the first All-Filipino, Tushova spelled the difference for Capital1, showing her generational scoring prowess that set the top three PVL scoring records including a 50-point outburst in a quarterfinal loss.

MANILA, Philippines — Leila Cruz, Capital1’s second overall pick in the inaugural PVL draft, is determined to repay the team’s trust and prove herself by embracing a bigger role in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

Coming off an ACL injury that sidelined her for one year, Cruz didn’t expect to get the trust of the fast-rising volleyball club owned by Milka, the 1-Pacman Party List first nominee, and her sister Mandy Romero.

“They still trusted me na kunin ako So super happy ko lang na naging part din ako ng team na ito.  Hindi ko rin talaga in-expect to be honest na maging part ako ng team na ito. Pero grateful ako na nandito ako kasi super love ko yung team,” Cruz told Inquirer Sports.
